Triathlon is for everyone
Since our series began in 2015, RipRoar has been driven by a mission: bring triathlon to a new generation of athletes. During this time, we’ve offered a consistent calendar of world-class races, that highlight both elite and beginner athletes. Specfically, RipRoar has worked to reach first time triathletes in hopes of providing them a welcoming community and unforgettable experiences. And, while we believe in the caliber of our product, we recognize that, for some, our $50 registration fee per athlete is simply untenable.
As we build towards our 10th anniversary season in 2024, we’re also committed to building a brand new program to help expand our sport by removing financial barriers to new athletes.
RipRoar Scholarship Program
In 2023, thanks to the generosity of the VanWeelden Co and Anani Salon and Spa, RipRoar has begun a “athlete scholarship” program providing free or reduced entry to athletes in need. This program serves all athletes, regardless of years in the sport, in a respectful and anonymous manner.

“First Race Free” Initiative
Over the past decade, RipRoar has worked to remove barriers and foster the growth in our sport. We offer educational programing for parents and training opportunities for kids, and provide essential equipment like bikes to enable athletes to participate in races.
However, one idea that has remained unattainable is eliminating the race cost entirely. While not feasible or necessary for every athlete, we strongly believe that getting athletes to the starting line of their first triathlon is often most significant challenge. As we approach our 10th season, we are excited to announce our largest initiative to date. It is our belief that this program can double our first time participation from 200 athletes in 2023, to 400 in 2024.
We are excited to announce our plan to launch a pilot version of this program specifically for the RipRoar Championship’s in Johnston on August 19th, 2023. To achieve this goal, RipRoar & VanWeelden Co have partnered to cover 50% of these entry fees. To complete this initiative, we are seeking individual contributions to cover the remaining 50% of the entry fee for up to 100 athletes.
